Sadhguru has recently undergone a life-threatening medical situation. He is currently recovering well.
Sadhguru was suffering from severe headache for the last four weeks. Despite the severity of the pain, he continued with his schedule and activities, and even conducted the nightlong MahaShivRatri celebrations on 8th March 2024.
The headache got extremely severe by 15th March 2024 afternoon when he arrived in Delhi. On the advice of Dr Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant Neurologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Sadhguru underwent an urgent MRI at 4:30 pm the same day, which revealed a massive bleed in the brain. There was evidence of a chronic bleed that had been ongoing in the last 3-4 weeks as well as fresh bleeding that had developed in the previous 24-48 hours of the examination.
Though he was advised immediate hospitalization, Sadhguru mentioned to the doctors that “I have never missed a single meeting in my last 40 years”. Despite severe and agonizing symptoms, he completed his scheduled meetings on 15th March, and the India Today Conclave on 16th March under the effect of high dose of pain killers.
On 17th March 2024, Sadhguru’s neurological status rapidly worsened along with weakness of the left leg and marked worsening of headache with recurrent vomiting. He was finally admitted. A CT revealed a marked increase in brain swelling and life-threatening shift of the brain to one side.
Managed by a team of doctors (Dr Vinit Suri, Dr Pranav Kumar, Dr Sudheer Tyagi and Dr S Chatterjee), he underwent an emergency brain surgery within a few hours of admission to relieve the bleeding in the skull. Sadhguru was weaned off the ventilator post-surgery.
Sadhguru has shown steady progress and his brain, body and vital parameters have improved to normal levels. His recovery has been much better than expected and as per Dr. Suri “Sadhguru is healing himself, apart from the medical measures instituted by us”.
